Class Description

ASG Preschool Program

The ASG staff is dedicated to creating an environment that is fun, safe and full of opportunities for learning.  For many children this is their first experience in a structured “learning environment.”  Your child will be learning basic to advanced gymnastics skills as well as social skills.

During our warm-up time, we often work on basic gross motor skills.  Running, skipping, jumping, galloping, sliding and hopping are an important building block for  learning other skills and are known to help in reading readiness.  Gymnastics benefits your child by helping them with balance, flexibility, coordination and strength.  Some children will only continue in gymnastics through the elementary school age; however, you will find that their experience in gymnastics will help them in many other activities and sports.

When you look into our gym, you will see a variety of brightly colored pieces of equipment that we use to help your child learn gymnastics skills.  There are various shapes ranging from triangles, circles, rectangles, and even trapezoids!  We use the proper terminology in our instructions reinforcing the shapes and colors.  You will also see “waiting stars,” which give the children a safe place to wait their turns.  Learning how to “take turns,” “be patient,” and “share” are all valuable lessons we could all use reinforcement on.  We encourage the children to be nice to one another can often be heard praising good behavior.  Constant movement helps to keep any unwanted behavior to a minimum.  It’s all about Fun, Fun, Fun!  We use numbers and colored circles to help guide the children through our challenging, but accomplishable obstacle courses, which is just one more way we add to learning.
